Human is Social Being
Have you ever heard story about a boy twelve years old live together with deer family far in forest and he will live for one year with new family? I think you have not, try to read The Year of Sharing written by Harry Gilbert. The story take a place at large forest with far away from humans and the first time in morning Richard the boy feeling disappointed because he wanted strong animal which can fight. Because that, I choose this book for my last assignment the book report and other side I realize this book is very good story non fiction.
The main character in this story is Richard. He always feeling alone while around him crowd. He is clever, fast, strong. He had lived with his mother and father. His mother too busy and his father would cry without reasons. Richard have a doctor who always inspection Richard’s condition. The doctor care about him. In the first day with his new family he was very hungry want some food in breakfast but he realize that deer can not speak, can they? But, every the deer make sign or something Richard can know what deer means. There are four deers, the biggest is father and after that mother, smallest is the baby and the last is brother. Richard play with the baby they run and jump around mother. One character who always there in a story is antagonist character it is wolves the enemy of deer. The wolves will hunt prey when he was hungry.
The story started when Richard already twelve year old, he must do year of sharing. He put in deep and large forest without clothes, tool and weapon. He meet a deer family whereas he want to be strong and fast animals. He started adapt with his surroundings live with deer, play with the baby and the brother, looking some food for eat. One day, the father wants Richard to be quiet. Because there’s coming trough the trees. Richard very shocked see what happen, That’s wolf! Just only one wolf, the deer run away but Richard decide to stand and fight the wolf. And then other wolf coming he made a big mistake when he decide to stand and against. Finally, Richard run away from wolves. The next day, Richard missed the deer, he want to find them. Finally he find the deer family, he was happy that the deer is fine. he started make a spears and catapult for guard and protect themselves. And then Richard meet a group of wolf. He want to fight, with his weapon he killed one of them. The wolves run away see their member die. Richard feel happy can kill one of them. But, Richard make a big mistakes if one of them murder they will come to revenge. Tomorrow, Richard with the deer make strategy to safe from the wolves. Richard require the deer to run away so far and Richard to be decoy. It’s make the mother sad, because Richard already seemed like her son. Finally, the deer run away and Richard is the decoy. The wolves is coming, Richard run away and climbed up faster on the rock. And the wolves can not get his.
This story teach us about life without car, factories, machine and tool who make easy to doing something hard. How difficult life is! The human is social being with help each other we can solve the problem everyday. The essence from year of sharing is children already twelve years old must feel live in wild. They will learn from it, if they can not do it they will die. It is life. Who is stronger he is the winner. But, in this story Richard always strive to life he won’t die early. He never give up to help and learn from his mistakes. He think how to make a weapon? A spear and a catapult who can help from danger situation such as meet the wolves.
I just want to reader know that this is good for you who too love non fiction story. According to me this story teach me to be brave in doing my life. Sometimes we must doing something easy without machine to make us be not shocked if we far away from machine. And don’t regret if you have choose your choice, just do your life that’s the point.
